The Legend of llantrisant

Llantrisant is an ancient town in South Wales that nurtured skilled and courageous longbowmen. These archers earned the gratitude of King Edward III of England and became the first Freemen of Llantrisant. During the Late Middle Ages, a time of famine, plague and endemic warfare throughout much of Europe, the Freemen of Llantrisant were blessed by a rare measure of freedom and community self-sufficiency. They were granted the right to manage their own courts, markets and local government, as well as promote communal use of “the commons” for livestock grazing and commerce. It became a town where the members worked collectively to improve the lives of the population, encouraging local businesses, music, education and athletics. This community focus has allowed the town to flourish for over six centuries. It is from this town that our family descends and we hope to nourish this same spirit of community within the Llantrisant Retreat & Wellness Center.
